Port matching the lower intake to the head intake port is always a good idea. Don't touch the upper intake. I'd also double check the value of intake before you modify it. There are cheaper/better cast upper intakes from a performance perspective, but the GT40 intake was expensive and on a few special addition (non-ford) like the SCCA Mustangs. The exhaust port will get similar attention to the short turn radius, also we can widen the floor above the turn but don't get into the draft line. That's the line running down the port that is generated when the casting is poured at the foundry. The long turn of the exhaust port around the valve guide boss is another area of attention.
Apr 03, 2003 · For starters GT40 heads have larger valves 1.84 intake and 1.54" exhaust valves. Also the port casting is much cleaner and smoother, plus the HUGE thermactor air injection bump is gone in the GT40 heads. Also they're faster burn heads because of a revised combustion chamber.

Hot Rod wrote an article about this a while back and even though they knew how to port etc the Dyno gains were not that great. Low quality heads can have significant gains at high rpm's but starting with high quality GT40's and staying under 6000 rpm tells me not to port or polish. Another simple upgrade is the Acme Prop.

My question is how far can you port these heads? It looks like you could go huge on the exhaust ports, but I know that sometimes going too big actually kills velocity. I plan on finding a GT-40 upper and lower intake. 75 mm throttle body, A 90 mm mass, 24 or 30 lb injectors and a chip and tune after. и

It's really hard to go wrong with a gt40 intake from an explorer, P heads, and a mustang roller cam. as to truck blocks, the efi truck blocks have a knock sensor port in the side, the car blocks do not. that's about the only way one can quickly ID a block.
GT-40P heads are usually 59cc, standard GT-40 heads are 64-66cc. Both can be milled .020-.030 without problems. The compression question, 9.7:1 is too much compression for 89 octane with iron heads. I would stay at 9.0:1-9.5:1 at the most if 89 octane is fuel of choice. Aluminum heads can tolerate more compression.
